Amicini 2024-2025 Registration Form

Please submit a separate form for each registrant.

The Amicini Program offers violin and cello classes designed for absolute beginners to students at an RCM Grade 2-3 level. These classes emphasize developing solo and chamber group performance skills, establishing a strong technical base, and improving note reading abilities, all in an enjoyable learning atmosphere.

Our program includes 22 classes, from 4:30 to 5:30pm on Monday evenings. Classes are held at Bethany Chapel of Calgary, 3333 Richardson Way SW. Classes start September 23, 2024 – April 14, 2025.

Recitals will be December 9, 2024 and April 14, 2025 at 5:00pm, at Bethany Chapel. Students will play both solo and chamber music pieces at each recital for which a pianist will be provided as part of the program fee. The accompaniment session will be one week prior to the recital.

Students are expected to come to each class with a solo piece to play for their peers, their chamber music parts learned and in possession of their provided Amicini folder, music and a pencil.

Annual Volunteer Bond
To maintain affordable registration fees and ensure the smooth operation of our program, we rely on each family to volunteer throughout the calendar year (from October 1st to September 30th). Volunteer opportunities include working at casinos, helping with recital receptions, supporting end-of-year events, aiding with summer camp lunches, assisting with fundraising initiatives, serving on the Amici Board, and other possible tasks. Volunteer requests are communicated via email on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Amici Strings Program requires one $250 volunteer bond cheque from each family. Registration in the Amici Program assumes a commitment to fulfil volunteer requirements for the full calendar year (October 1st – September 30th).
A list of volunteer hours is maintained. Volunteer bond cheques will be destroyed after September 30th, 2025 for those fulfilling this requirement. Families that choose not to fulfill their volunteer commitment will have their cheques deposited as a non-volunteer buyout.

All families are encouraged to volunteer at various Amici-related events throughout the year.

Group Outing
As a special group outing, we will be attending the Pro Musica family show “Tough Turkey in the Big City – A Feathered Tale” on Sunday, May 04, 2025 – 1 p.m. or 3:30 p.m.

What happens when a turkey from the sticks meets a Park Avenue pigeon? With the feel of an old-time radio show, Tough Turkey in the Big City follows the comic blunders of Tom Turkey, who leaves the farm to try his luck in the big city. There’s a close call with a menacing chef, a tussle at the Turkey Club, a brief romance with a pigeon, and a happy mix-up at the Thanksgiving Day parade. An exciting 50-minute interactive afternoon of storytelling, music and puppetry with Narrator Samantha Whelan Kotkas; Composer Bruce Adolphe; Puppeteer Dean Bareham and Conductor Claude Lapalme. Recommended for children aged 5 to 12 but created with the entire family in mind. Come early for activities one hour before each show, stay after for a free cookie reception and meet the performers. There is a special rate for Amicini students and family members to attend. More information will be sent closer to the date.
